Having your home broken in to and your property stolen or vandalised is an awful thing to happen to anyone. Although you can never be 100% sure that there is no chance of this happening to you there are things you can do to make sure your home is as secure as possible and that should the worse happen, you have home insurance to cover it.
With home insurance you can have buildings and contents insurance. Most claims arising from break ins are done through contents insurance policies. When taking out your insurance it is vital that you answer all questions correctly as if they later find that your information is incorrect, this could invalidate your warranty and result in no pay out should you need to make a claim.
You will need to work out the value of replacing the contents within your home and think about any individual items that you have that are worth quite a bit. Most insurance companies will ask you to list items that are worth in excess of £500 – £1000 for example. They may also ask for proof that you own these items so either a sales receipt of photograph.
