Now that it’s only two months away, the ‘C’ word is finally allowed. That’s right – Christmas is nearly here, and with it all the expensive gifts and alcohol-fuelled parties. It’s a popular time of year for everyone – including thieves and burglars.
With all the fun and laughter of the season, make sure you take time to consider home security – loss of personal property is sure to wipe the smile off anyone’s face. Ensure all easily-accessible windows are closed, doors locked and gardens secured. If you can, put away any garden furniture or other items and accessories that aren’t needed over the winter months. Not only will it keep them from being pinched, but it’ll save them from the harsh weather too. Try not to leave keys in doors overnight and consider where you leave your car keys too – or else your car might make a handy getaway vehicle.
Don’t forget to protect your personal items too – keep pockets and bags zipped and close by at all times, and try not to leave possessions unattended in public areas as it only takes a second for someone to swipe a phone or purse from an unattended table, for example.
Finally, for peace of mind, check that all insurance covers are up to date in case the worst does unfortunately happen.
