Most of us are pretty good at our daily locking up routine, making sure windows are closed and doors are locked before we leave the house however, what about when you go away for a period of one or two weeks? There may be some extra steps you want to make to ensure your home stays safe whilst your away.
If you have a security system then make sure it’s all working and properly set before you leave. Check that you will still have remote access to your system whilst abroad, to do this you will have to enable roaming or be able to use Wi-Fi.
You may also want to leave a key with a trusted friend or family member just in case there’s an emergency and someone needs to access your property.
Ensure that all valuables are moved out of sight and either locked in a safe or hidden well. Timer switches for your lights can be great too as they make it look like someone is in at different times of day. Ensure that all other electrical items are switched off and ideally unplugged to minimise the risk of any fires. And lastly let your neighbours know you’ll be away so that they can keep an eye on things for you.
