When we think of security for our homes we often study our houses to make sure that they are secure and that it would be hard for someone to break in to, but the first place we should really start is with the garden or driveway.
Over the last few years garden thefts are on the increase and thieves often prefer to steel items of value from your garden than having to go through the trouble of breaking in to your home. If you have a bike then you need to ensure that it is put away, ideally out of sight, and locked up. Bikes that are left on driveways or gardens are often an easy target for thieves.
First of all consider your boundaries. High fences can be enough to put someone off from breaking it but it may also conceal them if they do manage to get over. Often a fence that has narrow gaps between is the best option. Thorny bushes are another good option for keeping unwanted visitors out as they make it very uncomfortable for people to push through.
If your back garden has a gate that can be accessed by the public then ensure that it is kept locked. All too often thieves can access back gardens because there is very little security around them.
