With Christmas only a week away, many people are concerned about their security around this time of year. With thieves knowing that many of us have stocked up on our Christmas presents and have splashed out on expensive decorations, this is one of the times of the year when they are most likely to strike. With the nights also becoming very dark early on and not as many people out and about due to the cold, darkly lit areas with little security are the most likely targets.
There are some things to consider to try and improve the security around your home and not make your home a sitting duck. Firstly try not to keep all your presents together. Often when a home is broken in to, the thief’s realise they only have a certain amount of time, and as time goes on they are more likely to be caught so they tend to work fast. If presents are dotted around the home and hidden in boxes, under beds or in wardrobes etc then the chances are they will not be able to get all of them.
You should also be sure that your home insurance will cover you should the worse happen. A quick call to your insurance company to tell them a list of the presents, especially the highly valuable ones that you have in your home, will give you peace of mind that you are covered.
